The Mother Tongue is an almost flawless popularization of the linguistic history of English. I've read many of Bryson's books and I have to say that this was his best. Working with a subject that could so easily be dry and humorless, he somehow entertains and informs with admirable ease/5(67). Mother Tongue is used as a Medium of Instruction (MOI) for Grades 1, 2 and 3 in teaching Math, Araling Panlipunan (AP), Music, Arts, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) and Edukasyon sa Pag-uugali (EsP). Mother tongue is taught as a separate Learning Area in Grades 1 and 2, as specified in the background of the study (DepEd Order #31s).
